Furious backlash after Noel Edmonds claims \'negative energy\' causes cancer

Victoria Derbyshire took Noel Edmonds to task over controversial comments he made to a cancer survivor.

The 49-year-old broadcaster was joined by 69-year-old Noel on the sofa of her Victoria Live BBC show on Tuesday.

Victoria took Noel to task over a controversial comment he made on Twitter in 2016 wherein he asked a cancer survivor if their ill health had been caused by their negative attitude.

And after being pulled up on his comments by Victoria, Noel showed no remorse for what he said almost two years ago - and, indeed, appeared keen to reiterate his point.

“You tweeted to a cancer survivor who had tweeted you by saying you were 'talking quackery and that it should be made illegal’, you tweeted back: ‘Scientific fact: Disease is caused by negative energy’,” Victoria listed.

“You then asked this twitter user: 'Is it possible your ill health is caused by your negative attitude?’ Do you regret saying that to him?”

A defiant Noel immediately hit back to say: “No, not at all. I regret the fact that he didn’t answer the question.”

After being asked to explain himself, Noel continued: “It is a scientific fact that negative energy causes disease and negative thoughts are part of that energy process.”

He continued: "If you are faced with a serious illness, you have to come at it with a positive mental attitude. It changes the outcome and millions of doctors and scientists will tell you that.”

“Don’t you think it’s a horrible thing to say to a cancer survivor?” Victoria asked.

But Noel didn’t relent, arguing: “Well I think it was horrible the way he started the dialogue."

Viewers were left gobsmacked by Noel’s responses - with one tweeting: "I'm aghast at the lack of awareness of Noel Edmonds!!!! Great interview by @VictoriaLIVE - you exposed Noel Edmonds completely."
